Clients are no longer waiting for accountants to take the lead on artificial intelligence (AI) with 64% saying they have used chatbots to answer tax and accounting questions before they talk to their accountants.

More than half of accountancy firms reported having to step in and correct inaccurate advice their clients had received from ChatGPT, found a survey of 500 senior decision makers across accountancy firms conducted by AI startup Ravical. At the same time, the accountants said 64% of their clients claimed they were using AI chatbots to answer questions they would have asked their accountants in the past.
