Applications for HMRC’s graduate programme for tax professionals open today, with a month-long opportunity for students to apply for positions starting on 7 September 2017
Applicants must have a 2:2 degree at application stage or the expectation of a 2:2 degree before September 2017.
After completing the application form they will be invited to complete a Civil Service initial sift test. If successful they will go on to take a verbal and numerical reasoning test.
The second stage of the recruitment process opens in December and will involve an online analytical skills test and a situational judgement test.
Applicants who make it through to the final round will attend a one day assessment in February and March 2017 at facilities in either Coventry or Lincoln.
Successful candidates will join a three-year training programme, which includes on the job experience and study for an accredited qualification, and can be based at one of 12 sites around the country. Following this, they will be promoted to a Grade 7 post as a senior tax professional and may take up a technical/investigative role, a customer relationship manager role or be involved in formulating tax policy.
The current pay scale for a Grade 7 in HMRC begins at £48,389 pro-rata (national), £54,461 pro-rata (London).
HMRC has said it will not be offering an internship programme in 2017.
