As the job market picks up and competition for recruits intensifies, Chris Willsher, senior regional director and Reed’s accountancy recruitment expert, provides tips on attracting the best staff

With the jobs market rebounding and accelerating as Britain’s economy begins to return to normality, accounting firms have to know how to attract and keep talented employees to help them grow and recover.

Like most professions the accountancy sector has experienced its lows over the past year and a half. Accountancy jobs fell by as much as 83% between January and April of 2020, but now the sector is returning to pre-pandemic volumes of jobs posted as the economy adjusts to new ways of working.

Since December 2020, the number of jobs in the sector has increased by 39%. And in the last two months alone there has been an 11% rise in the number of accountancy jobs.
