Whitbread switches auditor from EY to Deloitte after six decades

Deloitte has been appointed as external auditor to Whitbread, the hotel and restaurant operator, after severing its relationship with EY after 60 years.

Whitbread, owner of the Costa Coffee and Premier Inn brands, conducted a formal tender process for its statutory audit services, prompted by recent changes in EU legislation regarding auditor rotation.

In a statement, the company said: ‘Ernst & Young has been the group’s auditor for over 60 years and, having taken account of the latest governance best practice, we decided that it would be appropriate to review the provider of these services.’

Confirmation of the appointment of Deloitte is subject to approval at the AGM on 16 June 2015.
