Banks stalled on climate disclosures

The progress on climate-related disclosures in annual reports by some of the world's largest banks slowed down in 2021 with minimal coverage, according to analysis by KPMG

The investigation report by KPMG International Standards Group, which is now in its second year, looked at the climate-related disclosures in 35 of the world’s leading banks' most recent annual reports and found that while 100% mention climate-related disclosures the more detailed progress in annual reports has slowed.

Of the banks surveyed, five of which were from the UK, 100% mentioned climate-related issues in the front sections of their reports, however only 37% noted climate in their financial statements with 23% including it in their financial risk management, 14% in their accounting policies, and only 9% mentioned it in relation to deferred tax assets and goodwill.
