The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has extended the closing date of a consultation on ways to increase the transparency of foreign investment in property and public contracts, which will now be open for comment until 4 April
The consultation was first published on 4 March with an original closing date of 1 April, which has now been changed to the beginning of next week.
It sets out proposals to improve the transparency of ownership of foreign companies that purchase property, in a bid to crackdown on money laundering and with the aim of preventing the UK from being a safe haven for corrupt money from around the world.
It also considers how beneficial ownership information on foreign companies could be made available so as to ensure the government is aware of the ultimate owner of a company seeking to participate in public contracting.
