‘Bizarre’ transition rules give non doms easy exit

The government is digging a deeper fiscal black hole with non-dom changes as a result of favourable transition rules for 10-year inheritance tax rule

Tax experts at Blick Rothenberg have warned that the detailed guidance on the overhaul of the tax regime for non doms offers ‘non doms first class plane tickets to get out of the UK’.

The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves has committed to abolishing non-dom rules, tightening up the regime even more than her predecessor Jeremy Hunt.

The way the rules are worded hands an easy exit to non doms planning to leave in the next tax year, warns Blick Rothenberg.

Nimesh Shah, CEO of Blick Rothenberg, said: ‘Buried in the technical detail of the new Labour government’s non-dom changes is a bizarre transitional rule.

‘The rule gives non doms an exit route out of the UK in the next tax year without being caught by the new “10-year tail” for inheritance tax.
