On 29 March Theresa May triggered Article 50 and formally began the UK's exit from the European Union. Shortly after her announcement, the Great Repeal Bill was unveiled by David Davis who said that the Bill would provide 'clarity and certainty' for both citizens and businesses in the aftermath of Brexit.

The Bill will repeal the European Communities Act 1972, which is essentially the piece of legislation that incorporates all EU law into UK law, and gives supremacy to EU law. Repealing the 1972 Act should ensure that there is clarity as to which law applies, with UK law becoming supreme from the date of repeal.
