Budget 09: Higher tax for top earners

Chancellor Alistair Darling is raising tax on the highest earners to 50% as of April next year, upping his original plan of a 45% tax rate announced in last November's pre-Budget report. The increase, which will come in a year earlier than previously announced, will apply to employees with annual earnings of more than £150,000.
