Top 20 firm Saffery Champness has appointed Matthew Burton as managing partner taking over from Rob Elliott who is stepping down after three terms in the role
Burton, who is currently head of the firm’s private wealth and estates group, will take over the role of managing partner from April 2018.
He originally qualified as a chartered surveyor and in the 1990s retrained with one of the Big Four to become a chartered certified accountant before joining Saffery Champness in 2004.
He advises a range of clients including high net worth individuals, landed estates and owner-managed businesses.
Burton, managing partner elect of Saffery Champness, said: ’It is a privilege to have been elected by my partners to the role of managing partner. Elliott stepped down from the role after serving a total of three terms. He was previously managing partner from 2002-10 and was re-appointed again in May 2015, succeeding Jonathan Fox who stepped down after five years.
He trained with a predecessor firm and became a partner of Saffery Champness in 1987. Elliot has also served as the firm’s finance partner.

Saffery Champness is ranked 12 in Accountancy’s Top 75 survey 2017 with a fee income of £78.7m. The firm currently has 75 partners.
