Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council has been slapped with an official warning after it failed to comply with its duties as trustee of 13 charities.

It is the first time the regulator has issued such a notice to a local authority and follows a warning to councils last month that they must adhere to charity rules.

Charities overseen by Calderdale council include Bacup Road Recreational Ground, Tetley Memorial Park and Public Central Library. The annual accounts for Tetley Memorial Park for example have not been filed since 2019, with no information at all about the financial position of the facility.
