Helim Miah, 46, from Cardiff, has been jailed after pleading guilty at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court for breaching multiple legal restrictions stemming from a bankruptcy order issued nearly two decades ago.

Miah was declared bankrupt in 2006, owing £12.3m to creditors, and was disqualified from serving as a company director for 13 years.

When Miah was originally struck off in 2004, his company, Fresh ‘n’ Clean Limited, which was registered as a dry cleaning business, was importing ‘huge quantities of mobile phones’. Another company, Hillgate Corporation, paid £66m to Fresh ‘N’ Clean over the course of just one month in 2004 but the dry cleaners did not receive any of the money invoiced to Hillgate.
