Charlotte Young, 45, from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, was jailed for three years at Amersham Crown Court on 8 May after pleading guilty to two counts of theft by employee.

For eight years between 2015 and 2023, Young worked as a treasurer and accountant for Long Crendon Community Social Club, and Long Crendon Village Association in Buckinghamshire.

Thames Valley Police said she ‘covered her tracks well’ when she stole £125,681.92 from the social club’s account, and £29,498.41 from the village association’s account.

The court heard that she 'transferred money using the names of legitimate companies used by the charities, including HMRC. It appeared to her victims as though they were paying outstanding bills but Young sent the money to her own bank accounts instead', police said.
