Career moves: EY, Grant Thornton, Price Bailey, Saffery Champness

Grant Thornton beefs up forensic investigation team, while Price Bailey expands insolvency and recovery division with appointment of new partner, Saffery Champness bolsters management team and EY names new lead partner for tax practice at Bristol office

Grant Thornton has appointed Will Davies to lead its forensic and investigation services (FIS) team which focuses on resolving highly complex and multi-jurisdictional disputes and investigations. Davies has been with the firm since 2002, and is tasked with expanding the FIS team in the UK and collaborating with member firms internationally to assemble cross-border project teams.

Price Bailey has announced two new senior appointments to its insolvency and recovery team. Matt Howard joins the firm from BDO Norwich as an insolvency and recovery partner, along with Stuart Morton. Howard has extensive experience in dealing with corporate and personal insolvency together with informal arrangements and turnarounds. Morton has particular knowledge and experience in areas including retail, construction and manufacturing.

Linda Pfatteicher, who is a specialist in international corporate tax, has joined Squire Patton Boggs as partner in its global tax strategy and benefits practice group based in the firm’s San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices.  Pfatteicher was previously a partner at DLA Piper and also spent over a decade with KPMG. Her focus is on tax and operational structuring, and US and foreign tax compliance.

EY has announced two senior regional appointments. Stuart Wilkinson joins from KPMG as a partner in Cambridge to help lead the business tax advisory (BTA) practice. This is the latest in a number of senior hires and promotions across EY’s Cambridge office, including James Turner and Maria Schnetzingerto to senior manager and Tom Eede, Fiona Mitchell and Luke Little to manager.

Karen Kirkwood has been made a partner and will lead EY’s Bristol tax practice. She has 20 years’ experience providing tax advice to a broad range of companies and private equity backed businesses, and joins from PwC in London. This follows the appointments of Edward Murphy, as a senior manager who specialises in corporate and transaction tax, and Chris Ovens as manager who specialises in tax incentives for innovative and high tech businesses. James Mohide also joins as a manager in the private client tax team.

Saffery Champness has made a number of appointments to its senior management teams. Ben Bennett joins the firm as executive partner, working with managing partner Jonathan Fox and the management board to support the firm’s growth and expansion. Bennett will be responsible for marketing, HR, IT, information & systems and facilities. Having previously been a partner in both the property and legal sectors, he joins the firm from law firm Farrer & Co, where he was chief operating officer since 2008. Nick Fernyhough and Mike Hodges – partners at Saffery Champness – have both taken over new roles heading up the Bournemouth and Manchester offices respectively.  

Dean Yorath, who joined Tunbridge Wells accountancy practice Creaseys as an AAT trainee straight from full-time education, has been appointed an associate director in the corporate and business division.
