Cayman Islands signs tax deal with UK

The UK has signed an agreement with the Cayman Islands to share all matters relating to tax in the fight to achieve global transparency by addressing double taxation and 'fiscal evasion'. Stephen Timms, financial secretary to the treasury, said he was pleased that the Cayman Islands government signed the agreement which 'includes unprecedented provisions for tax information exchange that meet international standards of transparency'. Chairman of the Cayman Islands Financial Services Association, Anthony Travers, said the jurisdiction was stable, transparent and tax neutral. The latest signing is another step for the Cayman Islands to move up from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's 'grey list' of countries that have implemented its tax sharing standard to the 'white list'.
