CIOT and the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) are organising a series of discussions on the future of the tax system at each of the main party conferences for the first time this year.

The events, entitled Where next for tax? 2015 and beyond, are intended to explore how to build an efficient, sustainable tax system and raise the resources needed to fund public services in the 21st century.

Exchequer Secretary David Gauke will be on the panel for the Conservative conference event in Manchester on 1 October, which is being chaired by Faisal Islam, economics editor of Channel 4 news.

Gauke's opposite number Catherine McKinnell will speak at the debate at the Labour party conference in Brighton on 24 September, and the event chair is Paul Lewis of BBC Radio 4's Money Box programme.

Dick Newby, who speaks for the government on Treasury issues in the House of Lords, will be taking part in the event held at the Lib Dem party conference in Glasgow on 17 September, to be chaired by Chris Giles, economics editor Financial Times. Each panel will also be joined by IFS director Paul Johnson and senior CIOT representatives.

Attendance at any of the events is free of charge and does not require registration. Anyone attending the Glasgow event at the Lib Dem conference will require a party conference pass as it takes place in the conference secure zone, but no pass is required for the other two.
