Social class and nepotism play a major role when accessing work experience, and nearly half (48%) of young people thought the accountancy profession favoured those with parents or guardians from a professional background, found research by KPMG U into the views of 2,000 young people.

Nearly three-quarters (71%) believed that the profession was out of reach without the help of their parents.

The same mindset prevailed when asked about work experience, with 45% stating that it was more commonly arranged via a family member or friend, rather than through their school (32%).
