Collaboration within the accountancy world: pros and cons

Offering a comprehensive range of services to clients is not always possible so it can be worth considering joining forces with another accountancy practice. Sherad Dewedi, managing partner at Shenwards, explains the pros and cons

Collaboration as a soft skill has become increasingly desired in the accountancy industry. Whether that is a collaboration between colleagues within the same department, other departments, or going a step further and collaborating with external peers from competing practices. But it hasn’t always been this way.

In the past, accountants have operated a closed-door policy and turning to others for help or to collaborate might have been seen as a sign of weakness within the business – whether this was true or not, it was definitely thought. But times have changed, and in fact, it is now seen as quite the opposite.

The question is, while it is definitely becoming more popular and encouraged, is it a simple thing you can just decide to do? And more to the point, is it worth it?
