Companies House switches to email reminders only

Companies House is to stop sending letters to businesses reminding them when their accounts and annual return are due for filing, after research has shown that email reminders are more effective

The agency says recent analysis of the Companies House reminder service has shown that those companies who have switched to email reminders have improved their compliance rates and, as a result, are less likely to get a penalty for filing their accounts late.

Companies House is now recommending that all companies register for the email reminder service, and has stated that it intends to withdraw paper  reminders in the future as part of the move to become a fully-digital organisation.

The email reminder service is free and allows companies to choose up to four people to receive a reminder, including an agent. Companies can file documents immediately from a link within the reminder, which Companies House says makes the process more convenient, cheaper and better for the environment.

New users will need to register to use the Companies House online filing service and it is possible to register multiple companies in one go.
