A postman has been jailed for using the contents of stolen post to commit a string of frauds, such as writing stolen cheques worth £9,000 to himself and buying a Rolex
John McKinney, 42, from Newquay was sentenced at Truro Crown Court on 14 November after pleading guilty to a list of fraud and theft offences while working as a postman.
Between September 2023 and May 2024 McKinney worked for the Royal Mail, before being arrested in September 2024 at the airport after returning from Ireland. He was held on remand until his trial where he was found guilty and sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment.
McKinney stole cheque books, credit cards, and driving licenses from the post of his victims and then transferred the money to himself, opened bank accounts with the identification documents and attempted to procure two passports through false statements.
