Dodwell: EU country-by-country reporting highlights potential pitfalls

Initial proposals to launch EU wide country-by-country reporting requirements for multinationals with turnover in excess of €750m raise concerns for big business as they will have to report corporation tax in isolation to their wider tax liability, says Bill Dodwell, head of tax policy at Deloitte 

The launch by the European Commission of a proposal for public country-by-country’ reporting had been well trailed finally emerged on 12 April. The plan is to amend the Accounting Directive to require that large companies publish data for each EU country in which the group operates. The proposal uses some of the data required by Action 13 from the OECD’s Base Erosion & Profit Shifting (BEPS) project.
