Draft proposals to give HMRC more power to tackle tax avoidance schemes

The Treasury is consulting on draft regulations that aim to give HMRC the power to take swifter action when tax avoidance scheme promoters fail to provide information on their avoidance schemes

The proposed changes will make amendments to Finance Bill 2021 and will give HRMC more scope to make taxpayers aware at an earlier stage if they suspect they are being sold an avoidance scheme.

The Treasury released draft regulations for the Disclosure of Tax Avoidance Schemes (DOTAS), Disclosure of Avoidance Schemes for VAT and Other Indirect Taxes (DASVOIT) and Promoters of Tax Avoidance Schemes (POTAS).
