Economic trends: lessons learned

While 2014 might be the year investment finally takes off, the experiences of recent years must be heeded, says Emmanouil Schizas, senior economic analyst at ACCA

 

In recessions, it is customary for economic agents to put off some of their most important long-term plans for better days: couples put off having children; legacy-building government strategies are put on hold; and businesses put off capital spending. The return of such long-term commitments is the ultimate measure of economic recovery, and, by that measure, 2014 may be the year the global recovery begins in earnest.
