Evelyn Partners sells accountancy arm, rebrands as S&W

The £700m divestment of Evelyn Partners’ accountancy and advisory business has completed with a name change to S&W, backed by private equity, and led by Andrew Wilkes

The firm will operate as S&W, referencing the original Smith & Williamson brand, which dates back to 1881, and was the name of the business prior to the sale to Tilney in 2020. That merged business was renamed Evelyn Partners in June 2022.

S&W is ranked as the sixth largest firm in the Top 75 Firms, with fee income of £656.6m, marking growth of 9.3% in the last financial year ending 31 December 2023. The new business will have 122 partners, 1,800 staff and has 14 offices across England, including three sites in London and in key cities like Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, and Liverpool.

Andrew Wilkes becomes CEO of the spin-off firm, stepping up from his previous role as chief professional services director of Evelyn Partners to lead the newly divested business. Previously he had overall responsibility for client teams working across audit, business services, tax and advisory. He originally joined the old Smith & Williamson in 2004 as head of tax.
