Experian expands credit scores with rental payments

For the first time, rental payments and phone contracts will be included in credit scores after Experian overhauls system

Experian has made a series of improvements to its credit score model to ‘better reflect how credit applications are assessed’.

The updated score includes new data, such as rental payments and phone contracts, and will consider ‘more of the positive financial behaviours people demonstrate in everyday lives’.

The maximum credit score range has been extended from 999 to 1,250 but Experian said ‘the new score will not affect a person’s ability to get credit eligibility for mortgages, loans, or credit cards remains the same’.

The new service goes live in November and will be available for all customers by the end of the year.
