Ernst & Young in the US has reached a $109m (£67m) settlement with attorney general Mike Cox and treasurer Robert Kleine, following its failure to expose fraudulent activity at HealthSouth Corporation.
One of the largest settlements ever obtained against an outside auditor in a class-action securities fraud case, the action benefits the State of Michigan's pension fund, which lost millions of dollars of investments.
