One of the enjoyable aspects of working for a company with international offices is that you get to work with some different people. It’s a product of the modern world that every company I have worked for has involved visiting people abroad or people from abroad that have come to live in the UK. My Dad worked for 40 years in an insurance company and once got to visit Inverness. Whatever your views on Brexit, this isn’t ever going to change.

So foreigners add a bit of entertainment to the daily grind. However, it can sometimes take work to find some common ground. For example, I had always got on pretty well with the big boss in Germany but found conversational topics a struggle. Until one evening when a disparate group of colleagues from the German office and a smattering of UK people were out for a cross-functional, inter-departmental drink.
