GDPR and charities: a ten-step guide

Martin George, programme and compliance manager at the Foundation for Social Improvement (FSI), provides guidance on best data practices and implementing general data protection regulation (GDPR) in small charities

Several months on from the introduction of the GDPR in May 2018, it is impossible to estimate how many of the nearly 200,000 UK charities consider themselves to be compliant. In June the FSI asked its membership of over 6000 small charities whether they were prepared for GDPR, with 37% of respondents answering that they were still in the process of getting ready.
