Grant Thornton's head of people and culture Sacha Romanovitch has triumphed in the accountancy category in the Women in the City Awards, which recognise the outstanding achievements of senior women in the City. Qualifying as an accountant in 1993, Romanovitch joined the mid-tier firm in 1994, making partner level in 2001, before becoming managing partner of the London office in 2002. The award recognises her contribution to removing barriers for women in senior roles, and in her active part in helping others in the firm get the opportunity to develop themselves. Romanovitch will now go on to compete with the five other category finalists for the overall Jaguar 2009 Woman of Achievement Award. 'I would love to see the day when awards like this are not needed and it is just commonplace to see women on boards, however this award gives a chance for women to share their different career choices and if that helps one other person on their path it has to be a good thing,' Romanovitch said.
