Setu Kamal, a tax barrister practising tax law in the UK and resident in Cyprus and the UAE, sued Dan Neidle and his non profit Tax Policy Associates for libel and an alternative claim in malicious falsehood, seeking £8m in damages. Kamal was previously practised as a barrister at Old Sqaure Chambers in London for 20 years until 2024.

Tax expert Neidle runs Tax Policy Associates Ltd, a campaigning tax site, and is former head of tax at Clifford Chance LLP.

The case centred around a report published on the Tax Policy Associates website in February 2025 entitled ‘TikTok tax avoidance from Arka Wealth: why the Government and the Bar should act’.

The defendants, Neidle and Tax Policy Associates, brought an application for a ruling terminating Kamal’s claim without a trial.
