Dorchester Town FC and all connected to it are breathing a sigh of relief after HMRC initially filed a winding-up petition against the non-league outfit - only to subsequently withdraw it realising the action had been in error.

The club, playing in the Blue Square Conference South division, received the petition despite having its accounts all in order and are putting the unpleasant experience down to an administrative error at HMRC.

Dave Martin, club secretary at Dorchester Town FC said in a statement: 'Early on Monday morning it was established the winding up petition was presented by HMRC, despite the club being up to date with PAYE and VAT payments.'

Martin added: 'As suspected it appears to have been an administrative error from HMRC.'

The team known as the Magpies were officially given the all clear in court, where the barrister for HMRC requested the petition be dismissed and this was accepted by Registrar Jones.

HMRC were unavailable for comment.
