As part of its international tax training programme, HMRC opened the applications proccess for the 2017 series of courses for tax administrators based in Commonwealth countries, designed to provide robust compliance and enforcement training
It will run two courses for members of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) targeted at senior managers and tax auditors.
The Achieving Leadership Potential (ALP) programme is designed for leaders or managers already in a senior position. The Commonwealth Tax Auditors Course (CTAC) is for those who have experience in compliance work and need to strengthen their investigation skills.
The leadership course starts in mid April 2017 with 14 weeks of online learning via email with the course director, mainly on a one-to-one basis. This is vital preparation for the intensive six weeks residential phase held in the UK from 31 July to 8 September 2017.
The course director is available until end of September 2018 to provide follow-up support and advice on the crucial implementation of course action plans and project plans after the participants return home. Executive coaching may also be offered.
The Commonwealth tax auditors’ course provides a rigorous introduction to the main issues in contemporary tax compliance work. It is aimed at audit/compliance professionals and trainers who will benefit from exposure to the UK’s approach to compliance work. Participants will also have the opportunity to work with and exchange experiences with colleagues from a variety of other tax administrations.
This course starts in mid-April and requires 30 to 40 hours of online training prior to the six-week UK residential training programme.
The course fee is approximately £9,400.
The closing date for applications is Friday 24 February 2017. Successful applicants will be notified by 17 March 2017.
