The government has announced that the electronic procurement system Peppol will be the core interoperability network for e-invoicing in the UK. 

Peppol enables the electronic exchange of e-invoices, purchase orders and other business documents, and is already the standard used across the EU, where some countries are ahead of the UK in terms of the use of electronic invoicing, although it will not be mandatory there until 2030, a year after the UK. A version of Peppol is already in use by the NHS.
