Gavin Park, Gavin Maher and Adele Macleod of Teneo Financial Advisory have been appointed as joint administrators of HHGL Limited and Hampden Group Limited, which trade under the Homebase name.
Immediately following the appointment, the joint administrators acting for Homebase completed a sale of up to 70 UK stores, the brand and intellectual property to CDS (Superstores International) trading as The Range and wilko.
The Range is a value chain with nearly 300 high street stores, owned by retail magnate Chris Dawson. The pre-pack deal is expected to secure up to 1,600 jobs as well as the online business, but the future of the rest of the retail giant’s stores remains at risk.
Homebase has over 130 home and garden out of town stores across the UK and Ireland, and around 3,600 staff across its head office and stores. For the time being, all stores will continue to trade until handed over to CDS. Homebase had recently completed on the sale of 11 UK stores to Sainsbury’s and has exchanged on a further three. The remaining 49 UK stores will continue to trade as normal while Teneo continues active discussions with interested parties.
