Radley, the handbag maker synonymous with the iconic Scottie dog tags, rescued in pre-pack deal after £6.1m loss year on year, but all high street shops to shut
Tough trading and impact of US tariffs resulted in the sale of Radley London in a prepack deal to US private equity firm Gordon Brothers, with all Radley shops in the UK closing with the immediate loss of 42 jobs.
US based private equity group Gordon Brothers focuses on the retail sector and last June snapped up Poundland for a £1, closing a raft of its high street shops, and it also owns upmarket clothing and shoe brands LK Bennett and Chinese Laundry, both of which are only now sold online and in concessions.
Best known for their handbags adorned with the distinctive Scottie dog logo, Radley first started trading on a weekend stall at Camden Market in London. It has 19 standalone shops and its bags and accessories are also sold through retailers including John Lewis, M&S, and Next. It also has stores in upmarket discount retail outlets like Gunwharf in Portsmouth, and its bags range from between £100 and £300.
