How to battle burnout in the accountancy world

Ed O’Connell, MD of professional services at Search, discusses the high stress levels within accountancy and the steps firms can take to help tackle the issue

Today, there is a strong emphasis on mental health in the workplace. However, recent research has shown that instances of burnout are still common within the accountancy sector. Worse still, the numbers may be increasing. A recent survey from FloQast found that almost all (99%) accountants struggle with some level of job-related stress.

The survey also revealed that 85% of respondents had to reopen their books at least once over the last year to fix errors, highlighting that burnout is having a direct impact on the quality of work produced and shows that there is work to be done to within the sector.
