With changes to qualifying periods for unfair dismissal coming shortly, probation periods may need review so download our free How To Guide to ensure your probationary periods are as effective as possible.

And remember, big changes are coming down the track in less than nine months. From 1 January 2027, the Employment Rights Act 2025 will reduce the qualifying period for unfair dismissal protection from two years to six months.

This means probationary periods of six months will likely need to be shortened and probation period processes tightened in advance of the start date. This means swift action will need to be taken.
