ICAEW to strengthen disciplinary sanctions

Accountants are likely to face tougher sanctions when ICAEW completes a review of disciplinary sanctions to create a third tier of misconduct and penalties by Q4 of this year

ICAEW is consulting on the sanctions regime for regulated members as it looks to improve the public’s confidence in accountants and the profession more widely. It is just two years since the institute last made changes to the disciplinary framework in June 2023.

The consultation is open for comment for six weeks. It usually takes around 18 months from initial consultation to publication of finalised guidance so new rules would not be in place until late 2026 at the earliest.
