KPMG has announced that 275 UK staff have been made redundant.

The numbers are lower than the 3% that were feared to be at risk from a cull, after the Big Four firm said it was conducting a review to take "a hard look" at its operations in August.

The jobs cull marks the second round of cuts this year - in March the firm announced that it would cut 120 jobs from its UK offices.

A company spokesman said: 'At around 2.5% of staff, its 50-60 staff lower than we first thought. This is largely down to redeployment throughout the UK business.

While no partners were axed, the job losses are said to have been made across all geographies of the UK and across all sectors - from client facing to support services.

KPMG now has around 11,000 UK staff.

The firm's accounting and audit service lines went down by 2.6% to £456m, (£458m in 2010), while pre-tax profits were down to £396m, (£416 in 2010), according to Accountancy's Top 60 survey.

On 31 July, John Griffith Jones stood down as senior partner to be replaced by Simon Collins, the former head of KPMG's transactions and restructuring practice.
