Staff at KPMG UK have raised £1.86m for Marie Curie following the conclusion of its three-year partnership with the end-of-life charity
Throughout the partnership, over 9,400 of the firm’s colleagues demonstrated their commitment to improving end of life care for everyone by dedicating more than 92,950 hours to supporting the charity.
The £1.86m raised for Marie Curie will go towards funding hours of vital nursing care for people with a terminal illness. Fundraising activities included the Big Walks series (pictured), abseiling down KPMG’s Canary Wharf office and taking part in the London Marathon.
As well as raising funds, the charity partnership extended to mentoring, digital skills workshops and pro bono efforts, such as collaborating with NHS Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to better understand the barriers to improving end of life care.
KPMG’s healthcare practice surveyed ICBs in England to identify ways that they could be better supported to commission palliative and end of life care services that meet the needs of their local population, with a particular focus on demonstrating the value of redesigning palliative and end of life care.
Roisin Sharkey, head of corporate responsibility and sustainability at KPMG UK, said: ‘It was a pleasure to work with the Marie Curie team over the past few years and to see first-hand the valuable work they do in palliative and end of life care.
‘At KPMG, we believe in the strength of working together to drive meaningful change, and the unwavering commitment and generosity of our colleagues is evidence of this.’
Matthew Reed, chief executive at Marie Curie, added: ‘Over the past three years, our award-winning partnership has been a true testament to the power of collaboration. We are truly delighted that £1.86m has been raised, which will have a profound impact on the lives of so many people and their loved ones affected by terminal illness for years to come.
‘On behalf of everyone at Marie Curie, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all KPMG colleagues who have supported the charity, by volunteering, taking on one of the fundraising challenges, to providing pro-bono expertise. Thank you to each and every one of you - we are so grateful to have been KPMG’s charity partner.’
