The Big Four picked up work worth £673m from government contracts in the year to November 2016, with KPMG taking more than half of the money spent, according to research by Tussell
The government procurement analytics start-up, says its research suggests KPMG won work worth 60% by value, more than eight times the earnings from government of Deloitte, which came in at £48m.
On this basis Tussell says Deloitte is a bit-part player compared to KPMG’s £401m of earnings. It suggests the firm’s six-month absence from bidding for government work, following a row about a leaked memo viewed as critical of the government’s approach to Brexit, is unlikely to have much of an impact on Deloitte or Whitehall.
Over the period, PwC won work worth £182m and EY received work from contracts worth £40m. Tussell reports KPMG does not necessarily win much more work than its rivals but gained contracts that are larger in value, especially in work for the Department for International Development.
