Christopher Bell, the chief executive of bookmaker Ladbrokes, has announced he is stepping down from the role after nearly a decade at the helm of the company, leaving the position open for a possible internal replacement.
Among those rumoured to be in the running are current finance director Brian Wallace, Richard Ames, head of the UK betting shop business, and John O'Reilly, the e-gaming chief.
Bell, 52, will be leaving the industry in the summer, after 20 years'experience, nine of those as chief executive.
Peter Erskine, chairman of Ladbrokes, said in a statement: 'It has been agreed between the board and Chris that this is an appropriate time to seek new leadership for the business. The board is currently engaged in the search for a new chief executive to fully capitalise on Ladbrokes' brand strength and position the company for a new era of profitable growth.'
