Liverpool umbrella agencies evade tax

Employment agencies Apricot Umbrella and Countrywide Partners have both been tagged as paying agency workers using tax avoidance schemes, one using a Cypriot third party, and run by an accountant

HMRC has named the two umbrella companies on the list of promoters that deliberately break the tax rules by paying their agency workers with a mix of minimum wage and a tax-free top-up payment.

Unbelievably after more than a year of publishing the names of these rogue agencies there is no progress on shutting down these promoters although they blatantly break the law. HMRC appears to have little appetite to take the promoters to court or issuing Stop Notices so they continue to operate with impunity, some even running multiple agencies offering identical tax scams.
