Materiality reporting needs to be holistic and streamlined

Companies need to take a more focused, strategic approach to reporting on materiality in annual accounts, warns Financial Reporting Council

 

As company reports become longer, users are spending more time analysing an ever-expanding volume of reports, and the information is often presented in a way that is not helpful to decision making, said the Financial Reporting Council (FRC).

The FRC report on materiality is calling on company reporters to take a more holistic approach to corporate reporting by considering what information is material to their stakeholders when preparing annual reports.
