With nearly one million A Levels passed this year, 28.3% of pupils were awarded grade As, up from 28.2% last year, with maths the most popular subject for fourth year in a row.

This year 835,950 A Levels were awarded to 320,505 students, an increase of 2.7% on 2025 according to Ofqual, the office of qualifications and examinations regulation.

Ofqual data shows that maths was the subject studied by more students than any other, accounting for around one in eight results released.

The number of maths students receiving results reached its highest amount this year with 107,300 young people opening letters this morning.
