Mid-tier firms back remedies proposed by regulator to break Big Four stranglehold

The initial Competition Commission report into the audit market has highlighted structural problems with audit, raising questions about whether the audit process meets the needs of shareholders or matches the needs of today's business, and highlighted the lack of competition.

The criticism of the 'principal agent' has been welcomed by mid-tier firms, although the Big Four hit back robustly saying that the current system meets the needs of shareholders.
