MPs intervene over Apostle Accounting tax rebate claims

MPs have written to HMRC calling for a meeting to discuss concerns about Apostle Accounting after clients said they had to repay tax refunds arranged by the firm

Clients who used Suffolk-based accountancy firm Apostle Accounting to obtain tax refunds were told by HMRC they had made ‘incorrect claims’ and were not entitled to the money.

The matter has left more than 1,400 clients that had used the service facing bills for thousands of pounds in overpaid tax.

Several MPs, including Dr Dan Poulter, MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, and Ipswich MP Tom Hunt have written to HMRC about Apostle Accounting, have requested a face to face meeting with HMRC to discuss the case.

Other Norfolk MPs, also signed the letter, including Liz Truss, George Freeman and Duncan Baker.
