When people ask me what I do for a living and I reply, ‘I’m a chartered tax adviser’, the response is often, ‘you must be good at numbers’. Actually, ‘no, my job is more about law, and the numbers just follow’ is my reply. 

Tax law dictates every part of my working day, be it the written word, or from precedents set in decided cases. I am grateful to the companies and individuals taking these cases, as it helps me and my clients interpret the legislation. It also helps HMRC as in following these precedents future tax submissions will be based on these known outcomes, giving rise to less uncertainty for all.
