The survey of 605 mid-sized businesses by the accountancy firm found that two thirds of respondents, 68% were confident about their business’s compliance with the off payroll regulations, with only 25% stating that they were ‘very confident’.
The latest research follows an earlier edition of the firm’s Business Outlook Tracker from January 2021 which found that 59% of respondents believed that they were ready for the IR35 transition in April 2021 with only 38% stating that they were not fully prepared.
Grant Thornton states that the results of its survey evoke concern about mid-market businesses’ compliance with IR35 as HMRC’s ‘light touch’ enforcement comes to an end in April 2022 which will see the tax authority’s approach to penalties become harsher.
