Parliament seeks views on accounting in banks

A parliamentary group set up to address banking standards has issued a call for written evidence concerning the approach to tax, accounting and audit by UK banks.

The panel has released a list of 20 questions covering the three areas that it is seeking responses to, including questions such as: Do banks' attitudes to tax planning affect banking standards and culture, and does this have any effect on the wider economy? As well as, what was the role of accounting standards and reliance on fair value principles in the banking crisis?

The panel - consisting of Lord Lawson (Conservative) and Lord McFall (Labour), as well as MPs Mark Garnier (Conservative) and Pat McFadden (Labour) - are all members of the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards group and will, once the 21 December deadline passes, assess the submitted responses before making their recommendations to the .
